The technology not only change our way of life as customers, but they also increasingly affect the business itself. They are no longer just an additional tool for generating growth and optimizing process. They became a cornerstone around which the company can gradually develop all its activities.
So in the early days of 2016, we present the 10 most important strategic technology trends that will create new digital business opportunities by 2020, according to the tech research company – Gartner.
These innovations will affect corporations in the long term, and will put a mark on their programs and initiatives.
These are the ten leading technology business trends according.
“The first three trends reflect the merging of the physical and digital world,” said David Kearney, vice president of Gartner Fellow. “While organizations are focused on digital business, the algorithmic business is strengthening its positions. Algorithms – links and relationships – will shape the future of the business. With this new type of business everything will happen in the background without direct participation of human. This is enabled by the smart machines – addressed in our second batch of trends. The final part addresses new architectures and platform trends to support the digital and algorithmic business.”
The Multitude of Devices Connected to the Global Network – aka. The Mesh
The idea is that more and more objects and devices will be connected to each other and the information they transmit, and their management can be done remotely.
They will be able to interact with consumers, social networks, governments and businesses. Things like cameras, weather monitoring equipment, cars, and various appliances. This concept is not new and is known as the Internet of Things (IoT).
According to Gartner, their number and functionalities will increase, as well as the ability to connect them. The research company expects significant breakthroughs in the development of smart accessories, and virtual reality.
Universal User Experience.
Currently, if you want to transfer information, program, or anything else on your tablet, computer or smart TV – you can run into several obstacles. The lack of compatibility between operating systems or software, different interfaces suitable for some but impractical for other devices. These are just some of the problems.
The trend is all of this to change. The information and the interactions between devices will be synchronized and will maintain the user experience when switching from one device to another. This should eliminate the boundary between tablets, PC, and TV.
According to Gartner’s vision the users interact with the application in a similar way in a dynamic environment. The idea is to remove restrictions caused by various factors such as type of device, place of use, and focus on the context of their use.
This way the user will be able to use an application on different screens without losing functionality, and all this while moving.
The experts at Gartner believe that business will have to rethink the behavior of their customers and focus on creating better applications that can be used anywhere, on any possible device, and without losing their usability.
3D Printing Materials
The three dimensional printing is progressing more and more as technology, opportunities, and market potential.
The main limitation is the material that these devices use. Gartner predicts that their capabilities will increase, which will allowed them to use materials such as innovative nickel alloys compounds, carbon fibers, glass, electrically conductive ink, electronics, and pharmaceutical and biological materials.
This will allow the 3D printers to be used more widely in virtually every major industry like aerospace, healthcare, automotive, energy, as well as the military, and the industrial complex.
Recent advancement in the technology is allowing scientists to combine several materials in a single 3D printing session. This will facilitate people who work with these machines, and will enable them to print an object or tool literally on request.
At the same time printing of tissues such as skin and body parts are moving from theory and science fiction to reality, which could open a new page in biotechnology.
Information of Everything
Given the fact that we are surrounded by more and more smart devices and objects, which collect different information, and communicate with each other, it is reasonable to think, that at one point data will be extracted from almost everything technological device.
The new task of the companies is to learn how to use and filter out the important parts of these new huge databases. And to be able to develop and adjust their business models further according to them.
Future Development of Machine Learning
Your smartphone is called “smart”, because of their processor and the operating system, but machine learning will be able to turn your device into real intelligent machine.
The goal is that, through machine learning, devices will understand the surrounding environment, take into account not only strictly defined data but also the context around it, and learn.
Intelligent machines will be able to change their behavior depending on the situation. For example, by analyzing large databases of medical records, programs will be able to submit proposals for innovative ideas for treating certain diseases or help avoid previous medical errors.
Autonomous Machines and Objects
Understanding the context of the situation and the possibility for self learning will enable development of a new class of smart devices, including robots, autonomous vehicles, virtual personal assistants and others.
They will be able to act independently, as the idea is these devices to become the universal end-user interface. So instead of navigating complex menus, buttons, and screens, you will be able to talk to the device and do most of the usual daily activities through voice commands.
Adaptive IT Security Architecture
The fast speed and the connection of more things with each other through the global network will increase the risk of hacking.
The cyber security will increasingly become an important component of company’s everyday life. The business will have to develop their technology and systems so that they are more secure and resilient to such external threats.
An important part will be the ability to adapt quickly to such threats, because the tools of cybercriminals improve constantly.
New system Architectures
Linking all kinds of objects and devices will require new approaches in the development of computer system so it can be effectively used by the business.
To accomplish this, it will need to change the current perception and to develop new architectures that work more like the human brain than previous formats.
Such systems will use GPUs and special programmable semiconductors (FGFA), which can be adapted to specific tasks. These systems will be used for training machines, sophisticated algorithmic activities and more.
FGFA can be integrated into many small items and have low power consumption, which will allow more and more little things to be connect with each other.
New Systems for Universal Applications and Services
The creation of flexible software solutions and services, used on any device requires the creation of new dynamic systems. It will take an architecture, which will maintain and processes information from all kinds of sources, devices, applications and services so that users do not feel the transition.
Platforms for IoT
IoT requires platforms that will supports all the devices and one on which they will be based on. It should allow all the connected objects to communicate seamlessly, be able to manage them, and provide the necessary security.
